1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser. It lets the site recognise your browser on your next request, which is how you stay signed in as you move between pages. Cookies set by this site can only be read by this site.
2. The cookies we use
Scotell sets five cookies, all strictly necessary for the Service to work. None is used to profile you or to follow you across other websites.
- __session — a secure session cookie set by our server when you sign in, so it can verify who you are on each request and keep you signed in on this device. It cannot be read by scripts on the page. It is renewed while you use Scotell and expires after 14 days without a visit, or when you sign out.
- scotell_device — remembers this device so you stay signed in after __session lapses. It holds a random code, not your identity; we store only a one-way fingerprint of it. It cannot be read by scripts on the page, is renewed while you use Scotell, and expires after 12 months without a visit, when you sign out on this device, or when your account is suspended, banned or deleted.
- scotell_session — tells the page that a session exists, so it can resume it. It holds no identity, only the value 1, and expires with the longer-lived of __session and scotell_device.
- scotell_cookie_consent — records which version of this Policy you accepted, so the cookie notice does not show again. Expires after 12 months, and the notice returns sooner if this Policy changes.
- scotell_unlocked — records that you have been granted access to a restricted preview of the site, so you are not asked for the access code again. Expires after 30 days.
3. What we do not use
We do not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies, or any cross-site tracking. We do not load third-party tracking or advertising scripts, and we do not sell or share cookie data with advertisers or data brokers. Because we set no non-essential cookies, there is nothing here to opt out of.
4. Managing cookies
You can delete or block cookies through your browser settings. Blocking the cookies above will prevent you from signing in or staying signed in, because the Service uses them to recognise your session.
5. Other browser storage
Some parts of the app remember small preferences in your browser local storage, such as whether a sidebar is collapsed, whether you have seen an introductory tour, and the email address last used to sign in and whether it was a Google account, so the sign-in page can fill it in or offer one tap back in. This data stays on your device, is never sent to us, and can be cleared from your browser at any time.
6. Changes to this Policy
If we ever introduce a new cookie, we will list it here and update the date above before it is set. If we ever introduce a non-essential cookie, we will ask for your consent first.
